Katabatic winds are powerful, gravity-driven flows of air that descend mountain slopes
and navigate demanding terrain with precision. They are not gentle. They are not predictable
in the way that still air is predictable. But they are purposeful, and they arrive where
they intend to arrive. Katabatic Engineering takes its name, and its disposition, from
that force.
Founded in 2015 in Juneau, Alaska, Katabatic Engineering was established to represent
owners on capital projects in environments where conventional approaches fall short.
Alaska and the Pacific Northwest reward project teams who understand terrain, plan for
the unexpected, and are willing to work where others are not. That is the work
we have built this small business to do.
We operate with directness and without bureaucratic overhead. Our clients, from
mining operators to federal agencies to municipal governments, get a technically
sophisticated team that communicates clearly, makes the field calls it is authorized to make, and stays
accountable from procurement through closeout. We do not disappear after the contract
is signed. We are present where the work happens.
Environmental stewardship is not a constraint we accommodate. It is a value we hold.
The terrain we work in is irreplaceable. Our designs reflect that. We pursue solutions
that meet the engineering requirement and respect the landscape they inhabit. These
goals are not in conflict; they reinforce each other. Good engineering, in difficult
terrain, with care. Together.
